Travel Slippers to Needlepoint and Embroider

These soft and comfortable slippers with needlepoint rose motif will soothe your feet after a day of travel and sightseeing. The motifs were stitched on needlepoint canvas with Persian wool and then appliquéd to purchased slippers.

Materials

• Brown Sheep Waverly Wool, 100% Persian wool yarn, 164 yards (150 m)/4 oz (113 g) skein, 1 skein each of #2005 Medium Pink, #2047 Light Pink, #2101 Dark Pink, #5091 Dark Green, and #5093 Medium Green
  
• Wichelt Imports Deluxe Mono Canvas, 18-count 100% cotton canvas, 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 cm), white, 2 pieces
  
• John James Needles, tapestry size 22 and sharps size 7
  
• Travel slippers
  
• Nylon thread, 1 spool, transparent
  
• Fabric glue
  
• Cording, finely twisted, 1 yard (.9 m), white

Instructions
Center and stitch the design, using tent stitch, the tapestry needle, and 1 strand of wool on one piece of canvas. Repeat for the remaining piece of canvas.

When the designs are complete, apply glue to the 3 or 4 canvas threads adjacent to the stitching. Let the glue dry completely, and then trim each stitched piece to within one canvas thread of the design.

Center and appliqué one motif to each slipper top, using the nylon thread doubled and the sharps needle. Cover the glued edges of each motif with the cording, using 1 strand of the nylon thread and the sharps needle.
